April 21st + 22nd marked the 3rd Yoga Teacher Training weekend of the 200-Hour program - the 3rd of 5 weekends after the requisite week-long Immersion (weekend #1 + weekend #2).
Subject: Meditation, Mindfulness, + Stillness
Wow, this weekend went by so fast!
Saturday was spent learning about mantras (man = thought; tra = to guide, protect; mantra = mind protection or guidance) + studying the Yoga Sutras (especially the 1st 3 sutras - the simple/complex essence of Yoga).
Sunday was blessed with the opportunity to learn from Kids Yoga teacher Evelyn Wittman (+ trying out her Yoga “games”, which are just as fun as an adult!), more in-depth asana alignment, + more Yoga Sutras study.
Bonus: we practiced Shoulderstand + Plow Pose before writing down the alignment specifics - and I found I can do both! I’ve tried both poses before + always had various issues; turns out they were alignment issues (though I’m sure my consistent practice has also helped relax/open my body more).
P.S.: Shoulderstand is badass + will instantly put you in a good/awake/inspired mood :)
For our next YTT weekend, we’ll get another visit from Kat Green to chat about the ethics of Yoga teaching, learn about the basics of Ayurveda, + do our 2nd round of teachbacks (which we didn’t get to this weekend). I sense I’ll have even more great stuff to blog about after the next training weekend! :)
Hard to believe we only have 2 more training weekends … less than 2 months … until we graduate :O
Other To-Dos for Graduation
25 Apprenticeships: Done! My last apprenticeship session was April 16th :D
5 Hours of Karma Yoga: 1 hour done with my husband back in February.
Will be completing 2 hours as part of a program Danielle has with a local beach volleyball group - after their practice twice a week, they do 30 minutes of Yoga with a Yoga teacher (sometimes, that teacher is me!). Last night was my 1st night with them + it was super-awesome - looking forward to more!
That still leaves me with 2 hours to fill - my husband might end up with those hours, haha.
5 New Class Observations: Starting the 2nd week of May (right after our next YTT weekend) + will be done before the end of May.
